Root Canals

Root canals are one of the most misunderstood procedures in dentistry.

It is easy to see why. Their reputation as being difficult and stressful has been perpetuated for decades. The techniques and materials used in root canal therapy have improved significantly in recent years, however. These advances allow us to perform root canal treatment that is more efficient and stress free than ever before.

The experienced team at Southside Dental Center has been performing successful root canals for decades. You can feel confident knowing that Dr. Abramowski and our team have the skill and expertise to make your treatment as comfortable as possible.

Why Root Canals Are Necessary

Anyone who has ever had an infected root canal knows what a painful experience it can be. This kind of intense pain is always a good indication that a serious problem is developing and should be treated immediately.

Root canals are necessary when the material (pulp) deep inside your tooth becomes infected. Within the pulp is a system of blood vessels, nerves, and tissue that keeps the tooth alive. If the infection is not treated, you will experience continued pain, swelling, and even possible tooth loss.

During the root canal procedure, Dr. Abramowski gently removes the infected tissue and carefully cleans and seals the tooth. Depending on the severity of the infection, he may use an antibiotic. In most cases, he will suggest a dental crown to protect and strengthen the tooth.

Comfortable, Stress-Free Care

Dr. Abramowski and his team are sensitive to the fact that a visit to the dentist for a root canal makes many patients feel anxious. You can be assured that your complete comfort is always one of our highest priorities. Just let us know that you feel anxious, and we will be happy to show you how our calming sedation will help make your treatment easy and stress-free.

We offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas), a very mild form of sedation. Nitrous will not put you to sleep, but it will help you drift off calmly into a dreamy state. You will be awake throughout your procedure so you can respond, but you will feel calm, relaxed, and detached from what is going on around you. The effects of nitrous wear off quickly so you can return to your normal activities immediately after treatment.

Soothing and appealing surroundings are also important for your comfort. Our team has worked hard to create a calming, comfortable office environment that will put you at ease and make you feel right at home. Combined with Dr. Abramowski’s gentle touch, stress-reducing amenities like music, pillows, blankets, and warm towels ensure that your visits are comfortable and easy.
